Thanksgiving in Austin | Part 2

Austin restaurants offer everything from a luxe prix fixe at The Driskill to a casual Brunch Feast at Hoover’s. Several restaurants offer great take-out options as well, including the Thanksgiving brisket from La Barbecue. Let’s review the alternatives for Thanksgiving Brunch, Dinner, Take-out, and Catering in Austin.

Dai Due Butcher Shop & Supper Club

Dai Due isn’t open on the holiday, but their butcher shop has many Thanksgiving specialities to order, including a brined turkey, a porchetta, and pumpkin pie.

Fresa’s Chicken al Carbon

Fresa’s will offer a full Thanksgiving Take-Out menu, including a roast heritage turkey for $85, a number of sides, a next day posole kit, and pie by Laura Sawicki for $40. Get your order in by November 20th for these very popular and tasty offerings. The Caramel Pumpkin Pie is on another level.

Moonshine Patio Bar & Grill

Moonshine will serve their famous brunch buffet from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thanksgiving day. $26 for all-you-can-eat is music to our ears. The Brunch Buffet price truly cannot be beaten for the quality.

La Barbecue

If you want BBQ which will make even the most discerning critic’s eyes light up, it’s time to order from La Barbecue, which will take pre-orders for Thanksgiving briskets. For those who can’t stand not having barbecue one day out of the year, you will feel at home getting your expertly prepared BBQ from this local favorite. Get your brisket, pork, turkey, sausage, and more here.

24 Diner

24 Diner will be open 24 hours a day, as always, on Thanksgiving Day, and starting at 10:30 a.m., they will serve a traditional turkey dinner prepared by executive chef Drew Curren. For $29 dollars, you get the full menu, and the down-home ambiance is free.

Hoover’s Cooking

For the bargain all of all bargains, Hoover’s will be open on Thanksgiving Day with a “Texas-sized feast” for $19.99. They’re also offering whole turkeys for $62.82, and will provide catering or plates to go. Catering is an option here as well, so check out the Thanksgiving menu and decide if this is your spot.

If your ego can stand not taking credit for preparing a meal from scratch, you can choose one of these brunch, dinner, take-out or catering options. Whether you’re staying in town without the family or just hate to cook, not cooking is a totally legitimate option. The difference in cost may be marginal if you factor in the value of time and labor you could save. Thanksgiving is a time for friends and families to gather, share a big meal and reflect upon  our many blessings, but it can also bring anxious moments. If the kitchen stresses you out, order up an Austin Thanksgiving feast instead. The expectation of a perfect turkey dinner, not to mention the stress associated with planning, preparing,  and cleaning, make some consider dining out, ordering take-out, or going the full catering route.

The Driskill

The Driskill offers both a family-friendly Thanksgiving brunch and a five-course prix fixe upscale Thanksgiving dinner. Celebrate a true holiday tradition with Thanksgiving at this notable Austin icon. Enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving brunch with your family on their grand Mezzanine.

Seating Times: 10 a.m. through 3 p.m.

Adults $79 | Children $38 | Children 5 and under, complimentary

The Capital Grille

The Austin location of this steakhouse chain is open for business from 12p.m. – 9 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. The Capital Grille Thanksgiving Menu features a turkey entree and pumpkin cheesecake that is sure to satisfy. The menu includes: Slow-Roasted Turkey with Brioche Stuffing, French Green Beans with Marcona Almonds,  Cranberry Pear Chutney, and don’t forget Sam’s Mashed Potatoes.


The Four Seasons will feature their massive brunch buffet with a Thanksgiving twist from 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. The TRIO Buffet Menu is tantalizing and comprehensive. Guests may also dine in the elegant Four Seasons Ballroom, where live piano music provides the perfect accompaniment to a delightful holiday Thanksgiving dinner in Austin.

$90 per adult and $35 per child, plus tax and gratuity.

Stiles Switch BBQ & Brew

While they’re not open for dining on Thanksgiving, Stiles Switch will offer a smoked turkey and full Thanksgiving orders to go. Their Thanksgiving Catering in the Austin area is an option here, but be sure to call for details and staff availability. Four pounds of slow smoked turkey breast for $45 dollars is a guaranteed hit if do not mind paying for quality.
