The Best Places for a Picnic near Cedar Park

First on our list is the McKinney Falls State Park located at 5808 McKinney Falls Parkway. With a $6 per person entry fee, McKinney Falls has great picnicking areas along with hiking, biking and swimming. Beautiful scenery awaits with an amazing waterhole. Listen to Onion Creek flowing over limestone ledges and splashing into pools. Follow trails winding through the Hill Country woods. Explore the remains of an early Texas homestead and a very old rock shelter. All of this lays within Austin’s city limits at McKinney Falls State Park – so what are you waiting for?

Next up on our list of the best places for a picnic is Zilker Park at 2100 Barton Springs Road. There’s so much on offer here: running, swimming, dog walking, kayaking. There’s lots of green space to enjoy and comes with a great view of Downtown. Zilker Metropolitan Park is considered “Austin’s most-loved park” and at 351-acres is home to a variety of recreation opportunities and special events for individuals and families. It also comes with botanical gardens, a spring-fed pool, a nature & science center, and a sculpture garden so there’s LOTS to soak in.

Have you picnicked at the Texas State Capitol? It’s ranked as the #1 tour option in Austin, surrounded by approximately 22 acres. In 1993, the completion of the Capitol Extension created an entirely new setting for the north side of the Capitol. The 1995-96 restoration of the historic South Grounds returned the park-like setting to its 1888-1915 appearance and updated vital systems such as fire protection, water-conserving irrigation, lighting and accessible walkways. So put a picnic together and head out there!
